SAVE THE DATE!
A dream, a passion.
The Valdobbiadene Pianezze returns in 2025, once again set against the stunning backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, dominated by Monte Cesen, which lends this competition a unique charm. On Sunday, May 25, the historic Valdobbiadene mountain race will celebrate its 28th edition.
Two races are scheduled, both with official timing: “Trail 24K” – 24 km / 1500 D+ e “La Storica” – cronoscalata 4.3 km / 820 D+. For the Trail, the start and finish will be in Piazza Marconi in Valdobbiadene, while the Vertical Race will also start in the square, with the finish at Pianezze Square, at an altitude of 1070 m, along the scenic Trail 1007.
The history
The Valdobbiadene Pianezze, a historic race and symbol of trail running in the Treviso Pre-Alps, was born in 1996 from the initiative of friends from the Valdobbiadene Ski Club and athletics community. During an evening among friends, over a few drinks and glasses of Prosecco, the idea of organizing a running challenge between the two associations emerged. The community responded enthusiastically, with a turnout that rewarded the organizational effort.
Each year, more athletes took to the trails, reaching 440 participants in 2015, the year of the event’s 20th edition. Thanks to support from Valdogroup and local Alpine groups, the event continued to grow.
After a pause in 2016, a new organizing committee was formed, resulting in the establishment of 1007 ASD, which modernized and adapted the race to the times. In 2019, the classic “1007 Vertical Race” was joined by the “24K Trail,” a spectacular 24-km course that skirts the peaks of Monte Cesen.
The 2020 edition was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, a reduced event was held outside its usual date, limited to the 20-km Trail course, with both start and finish at Villa dei Cedri in Valdobbiadene.
In 2022, a major change marked the 24K Trail: the start and finish were moved to Valdobbiadene’s main square. The vertical race, however, remained true to its traditional route, from the center of Valdobbiadene up to Pianezze along the 1007 trail.
Today, the Valdobbiadene Pianezze is a benchmark event for running in the Treviso Pre-Alps, thanks to the synergy between the organizing committee and a dedicated group of enthusiasts.
